The first question that most people ask is "What is the point? If I'm not doing anything wrong, why would I need to use encryption?"
The question they should be asking them selves is "Do you have to be doing something wrong in order for someone to focus their attention on you?"
There are a number of situations that can cause potential danger if the information you shared with someone is read by the wrong person, some examples:
- Credit card information. (e.g.) purchase orders by email. Do you really want strangers that are between you and your recipient know what your credit card number is?
- Your ID or Social Security. Someone can you use it to make orders, get a credit card, buy a car, or get a loan in your name.
- Political opinions. Do you agree with every decision your government makes?
- Workplace disapproval. Many companies monitor their employees' emails, and some employees have been fired because of personal opinions about a manager or their workplace, which was expressed in email to a coworker and later intercepted and read by management.
Your emails can be read by many people, most probably your Government is storing each email you sent/receive and these emails can be used against you in the future. Maybe to collect additional taxes or worse, to prosecute you for your opinions.
